Cardio vs Weights

There are many differing opinions in the fitness industry about the ‘right’ way to do things. This by all means is not the be all and end all of the way to lose weight or tone up, this is just my opinion. I prefer lifting weights over cardio. It’s worked for me so I don’t see any reason why it won’t work for any of you.

Obviously, cardio is important for cardiovascular fitness but in terms of weight loss.. I think weightlifting is the way to go. There are so many benefits that you get from lifting weights, losing weight, toning up, gaining muscle mass and most importantly FEELING strong. Feeling strong, mentally and physically, is the most important thing above all else. If you’re not feeling happy but you look thinner then what was the point?

The reason I believe that lifting weights is better for losing weight over cardio is because when you do cardio, yes it burns calories and fat, but instead of turning the fat inside your body into muscle it just burns it and you’re left with loose skin. When you weight train your fat cells turn into muscle, therefore you tone up and your skin tightens gradually. Yes, it’s the hard way to do it. It takes longer, and it’s more hard work and effort but the results are long term.

The more muscle you have the more energy you burn, and thats the fundamental to weight loss. Energy in and energy out. If you can burn more during the day doing your day to day activities and while you’re sleeping but continue to eat the same amount of energy to match your activity level then the more weight you will lose. Makes sense right?

Obviously I am in no way super qualified to be telling everyone you must do this and you must do that, but it has worked for me and I believe in the science behind it.
